Performance or working dogs include dogs who are very active in sports like sled-dog racing, or dogs who work for a living like search-and-rescue dogs or ranch dogs. These dogs need to acquire their calories from proteins, fats and carbohydrates. A diet high in fat will stabilize the dog's blood/sugar levels. Very few commercial dog foods will have adequate nutrition for hard working dogs, that is why most sled dog owners supplement their high-quality commercial dog food with meat and fat.
